The neuromuscular physiotherapy team at GOSH are running a two day hands–on practical course for paediatric physiotherapists

“The practical management of paediatric neuromuscular disorders”.

There is a maximum of 20 places for the two days – applications are for both days only

Venue: Physiotherapy Gym, 4th Floor, Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (formerly the Homeopathic Hospital – adjacent to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children)

Friday 28th June 2019, 8.30 until 16.00

Outline of session
Thursday am1. AssessmentCovering all the main assessments used in babies, infants and children with NM disorders: measurement techniques including myometry, timed tests, joint measurement, muscle testing, functional scales and outcome measures.
Thursday pm2. Splinting, serial casting and tapingSerial casting and soft cast splints in neuromuscular disease.
The use of taping in NM disorders.
Friday am3. Exercise and activityThis will look at the good and bad of exercising; eccentric, and concentric, problems of asymmetry, PNF, weights and resistance (including elastic bands), sport, activity, play and fun!
Friday pm4. Orthotics and Contracture managementThis includes the main orthoses used for NM children; stretches, splinting and positioning, the use of CCD’s, what to stretch; what NOT to stretch and when to stop!
