Educational Supervisors - RPCPH New Curriculum Sessions

The RCPCH Curriculum is changing on 1st August 2018.

Why?

The GMC is recommending that all specialties update their curriculum. The RCPCH is the first college to have GMC approval for the new curriculum. The new curriculum moves away from the lengthy, tick box based curriculum to more outcome based assessment.

The new curriculum is called ‘Progress’.

What?

The new curriculum has 11 Learning Outcomes for each training level (Level 1 = ST1-3, Level 2 = ST4-5, Level 3 = ST6-8).

These are based on the GMC Professional Capabilities which will be applied to all specialties in their new curricula.

There are syllabi for each generic paediatric level and for each subspecialty. These give guidance on how the trainee should evidence each learning outcome in their eportfolio. The emphasis is on quality rather than quantity of evidence. Evidence includes some examples of WPBA or courses currently in use.

Who?

All Educational Supervisors of RCPCH Trainees need to be familiar with the new curriculum.

All RCPCH Trainees will need to move from the current curriculum to RCPCH Progress unless they are due to CCT before 15th September 2019.
