Young Visitors Programme - Summer 2026

The Young Visitors Programme

Please note this page is applicable to those applying for a placement during the Summer cohort 2026 Only (20th July - 28th August 2026 Only).  If you are requesting a placement outside of this window you application will not be assessed for suitability and you will be required to reapply, at the correct interval.

The Young Visitors Programme is an initiative to offer short placements in the different clinical areas of GOSH to students thinking of applying for a career in the NHS. This programme is suitable for students aged 16-19 years (ideally sixth form students post GCSE) and runs throughout the year, offering 1-to- 4-day placements in the speciality of the student’s choice, dependent upon availability of places and supervising staff.  The purpose of the programme is to give an idea of what it is like to work in the NHS by shadowing clinical and nursing staff; this is a type of work experience although there is no hands-on work. Students are always supervised during this placement.

Please ensure you read the Essential Information, print the Parental Consent document, and have the letter from your Head of School, Tutor or Teacher (on headed paper) ready, before starting your application.  Reference should include your name, DOB, a little about you and why they would recommend you to the programme.

Due to the recent measles outbreak across London, we would like to make you aware that—should your application be successful—we will require proof of your measles vaccination status as part of our clearance checks.

You are unable to log back into applications submitted, duplicate applications will result in deletion. There may be occasion where applications are closed early due to large volumes.

Please do not email your application as it will not be accepted.
