Who we are:
The Tic Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a National Service that cares for children and young people up to the age of 17 years. We have a specialist multi-disciplinary team that works closely with other departments within GOSH and routinely shares the care of children with local services. There is a strong research collaboration between GOSH, University College London and other Tourette Syndrome clinics in the UK. We have an international reputation for clinical research into assessment and treatment for Tourette Syndrome.
Specialist training:
Many professionals working with populations who have tics value training in assessment, formulation and treatment skills. In response to this, we have put together two training packages for clinicians or researchers who work in this field. Attendees will learn about how to deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with tic disorder.
What the training will provide:
- Up to date psychoeducational information and its delivery including natural history of tics, prognosis, co-occurring conditions, genetics etc
- A brief overview of the evidence-base of interventions from behavioural therapy, medication, deep brain stimulation and other emerging treatments
- Practical training on delivery of habit reversal training and exposure with response prevention
- Additional interventions such as functional analyses, cognitive approaches
- Medication
Who should attend:
Healthcare professionals from disciplines such as Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Neurology. The training will be most helpful for those who regularly encounter young people with tics in their clinical work or research and for those with training and experience of delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and behavioural therapy with children. We welcome attendees who work with children, young people, and adults. It is appropriate for colleagues working in the UK and internationally.
Training:
The training will be delivered via a remote platform. An experienced pair of Psychologists supported by a Neuropsychiatrist will deliver the course. These are interactive sessions and there are opportunities ask questions and have discussions with the training team.
Training package includes the 2-day training (12 hours), training manuals and a post-course online consultation session where clinicians can bring cases for discussion and reflect on ways to further improve the delivery of treatment. The consultation will need to be completed within 6 months of the training, and clinicians will have a choice of three dates to choose from.
