Court Skills Training - Care Proceedings and Fact Finding Hearings

Event overview:
This one-day Court Skills Training Course will provide a detailed insight into Care Proceedings and Fact-Finding Hearings, including an overview of the Children Act 1989, and the role of the Local Authority and the NHS in Child Protection cases.
There will be a focus on the key legal principles including the Court process, and the statement writing exercise will strengthen good practice for writing professional evidence.
The course will conclude with a mock trial which will allow you to apply the knowledge and techniques you have learnt, giving you the skills and confidence you need to give evidence in Court.

Learning outcomes:
- Overview of the Children Act 1989 and your duty to safeguard children.
- Understand the key legal aspects including the Local Authority’s statutory obligations and your contribution to Child Protection from an NHS perspective.
- Discover the key principles concerning Care Proceedings, including Legal Threshold and significant harm.
- Practical insights into the Court process and understanding your role as a professional witness.
- Take part in a statement writing exercise to acquire techniques for excellent written evidence.
- Experience a Mock Trial with reputable Family Law barristers, including participation in cross-examination.
- Develop the knowledge, skills and techniques for delivering high-quality evidence in Court Proceedings.
