Course details:
A one day, face to face, small group workshop course. You will have teaching on core paediatric procedure skills/ key capabilities, and you will have an excellent opportunity to develop your practical skills. Each skills station will be led by experienced trainers guiding small groups through each skill allowing for lots of hands-on experience.
The six workshops will be:
-Peripheral Venous Cannulation
-Neonatal Umbilical Venous Catheterisation (UVC)
-Lumbar Puncture
-Intraosseous needle insertion and heel prick
-Paediatric and Neonatal Airway maintenance (not including intubation)
-Radiological Imaging
Learning Objectives:
- To understand the theory and be able to undertake in a simulated environment:
- Peripheral venous cannulation
- Neonatal umbilical venous catheterisation
- Lumbar puncture
- Intraosseous needle insertion
- Heel prick
- To be able to perform advanced paediatric and neonatal airway support, including airway opening manoeuvres and use airway adjuncts up to the point of intubation.
- To be able to confirm correct placement of arterial and venous lines and tubes.
(Please note: A certificate of attendance will be issued to reflect your attendance at this course. However, workplace-based assessments will not be carried out at the stations involved in the course.)
