Fundamentals of Oncology for Health Care Professionals - 4th and 5th August 2025

This course is for all heath care professionals working within paediatric and adolescent haematology/oncology who not have a degree or advanced level oncology qualification. 

What you will learn

  • An understanding of the nursing care needs of patients with haematology/oncology conditions
  • A basic knowledge of haematological disorders and solid tumours

The nurses role and management of:

  • Febrile neutropenia
  • Blood products
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Tumour Lysis
  • Supportive Care
  • Symptom Management/Palliative care
  • Support for children, young people and their families

Basic Knowledge of the different treatment modalities and their side effects: 

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Immunotherapy

To complete this course you will be expected to attend both days and to complete a competency framework in practice.

Currently these days will be face to face, however this may be subject to change if circumstances and trust guidance changes. We will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible if any changes.

Cancellation policy: 
Delegates are entitled to a full refund if they cancel their place more than 14 days before an event. All cancellation requests must be provided in writing to the GLA Team managing the event. Personal arrangements including travel, accommodation or hospitality relating to the event which have been arranged by you are at your own risk. The GLA shall not be liable for the cost of these arrangements if you cancel your place at an event or if the event is cancelled or postponed by the GLA.
