The GOSH Paediatric Long-Term Ventilation Course 2025

Thursday 15 May, 9:00-17:30: Online lectures
Friday 16 May, 9:00-17:30: Face-to-face (F2F) workshops at Holiday Inn Bloomsbury 

A comprehensive 2-day course focusing on the care of children requiring long-term invasive or non-invasive ventilation

Day 1 virtual lecture based teaching on:

  • Sleep disordered breathing in children
  • Indications and epidemiology of long-term ventilation (invasive and non-invasive ventilation) in children
  • From pathophysiology to the practicalities e.g., investigations, initiation, monitoring, escalating/weaning ventilation
  • Long-term ventilation and ethical issues

Day 2 face-to-face workshop based teaching on:

  • Choice of ventilator and interface, including hands on experience of equipment, mask fitting, circuits
  • Clinical scenarios, troubleshooting clinical or equipment problems
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Introduction to cough assist

Learning objectives: 

  • Understanding of the indications and epidemiology of long-term ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) in children.
  • Provide practical skills around initiation and care of long-term ventilation in children, including choices of ventilators, interface, mask fitting, tracheostomy care and circuits.
  • Tips on troubleshoot clinical scenarios and equipment problems.
  • Provide an overview of the multidisciplinary input to the care of long-term ventilated children.

Who should attend?

General/Respiratory Paediatric Trainees, Paediatricians, Nurses, Allied Health Care professionals and Carers.

Earlybird rates are in place until Tuesday 15 April, midday:

  • £105: Day 1 ticket (15 May) - Nurses & AHP (earlybird, virtual, 1 day)
  • £250: Both days ticket (15 & 16 May) - Nurses & AHP (earlybird, hybrid, 2 days)*
  • £160: Day 1 ticket (15 May) - Doctors (earlybird, virtual, 1 day)
  • £355: Both days ticket (15 & 16 May) - Doctors (earlybird, hybrid, 2 days)*

* Day 2 includes lunch and refreshments.

GOSH staff wishing to attend can either a) pay via debit/credit card (if they plan to self-fund their ticket) or b) apply through the Study Leave Fund or departmental funds (where applicable). Those applying via route b do not need to complete the registration form on this page. Please submit your study leave funding application and when approved the GLA Events Management Team will manually register you for the course. Please note that registration will close on Thursday 15 May, 8:00 BST. Dietary requirements for day 2 must be submitted by Friday 25 April.

Recording:

Please note that day 1 (15 May) will be recorded (subject to speakers’ consent), with the recording shared with delegates for a short period (up to three months post-event). Day 2 (16 May) will not be recorded.

Delegates are entitled to a full refund if they cancel their place more than 14 days before an event. All cancellation requests must be provided in writing to events.gla@gosh.nhs.uk. Personal arrangements including travel, accommodation or hospitality relating to the event which have been arranged by you are at your own risk. The GLA shall not be liable for the cost of these arrangements if you cancel your place at an event or if the event is cancelled or postponed by the GLA.
