Tics: Assessment and Formulation Training Day

Wednesday 9 October 2024, 10:00-16:00 BST

Who we are:

The Tic Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a National Specialist Service that cares for children and young people up to the age of 17 years. We have a specialist multi-disciplinary team that works closely with other departments within GOSH and routinely shares the care of children with local services. There is a strong research collaboration between GOSH and the other Tourette syndrome clinics in the UK, and we have an international reputation for clinical research into Treatments for Tourette syndrome.

Specialist training in assessment and formulation of Tics:

Following the roll out of our teaching package for Behavioural Treatment for Tics, we recognise that clinicians working with young people presenting with tics have little access to comprehensive information around assessment and formulation. In response to this, we have put together a one-day training package for clinicians who encounter young people with tics. Attendees of this training course will learn about distinguishing between Tourette Syndrome, Functional Tics and the overlap with other differentials, practice skills in using standardised assessment tools and work though case studies.

What the training will provide:

  • A one-day training course for professionals from disciplines such as Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and language therapy, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • The training will be most helpful for those who regularly encounter young people with tics in their clinical work or research posts.
  • The course will include awareness and training using gold standard assessment measures, theoretical and practical training in assessment and formulation.
  • The course contains excellent training videos, case study discussions, reference materials to use post-training and a certificate of attendance.
